Read more Windsor - The 2 Time Defending National X-Country Champions are Back....and Raring to Go! The 2009 Men's Junior Championship team returns to defend the National Championship they won last year.The boys like the Spitfire's are looking for an unprecedented 3rd straight team title. This fall we are looking to field male and female teams from the bantam age class through to the senior divisions.
Returning at the helm for another year are some of provinces and the nations finest distance coaches. The likes of which include Malloy, Hniedi, a double dose of Scarrow's and add new comer Phil Robson from the Run Jump Throw program to mix.

Practice Information:

Practices will be held Tuesday and Thursday this week at 6 pm at Malden Park. Weekly practices to be held on Saturday's at a time to be announced later.

Read more St.Clair - The 21st Annual Kids of Steel competition proved to be another exciting event for members of the Legion track club. Athletes' in the competition contested 3 stages of the event: a swim, a bike and a run. The son and daughter of Legion distance coach Steve Hneidi competed in the 3-5 and 6-7 age categories. Aleksai Hneidi and Erika Hneidi finished 5th and 8th in their respective classes. Also in the 6-7 age class was Rachel Patten who placed 5th. In the 8-9 age category Amber Patten finished 3rd and Jacqueline Turner, daughter of our Parent Rep Scott Turner finished 25th. In the 10-11 age class, older sister Jessica Turner finished 1st, while Chole Brule came in 2nd. Quinn Cannella placed 1st in the 12-13 age category. Finally, in the 14-15 age class Grahame McNevin finished 4th but was later DQ'd and Scott Neilsen finished 5th.

Read more Sudbury, Ontario - Day 1 of the 2010 Ontario Summer Games proved to be another successful meet for the Windsor Legion. Jon Reid and Kelsey Balkwill got things rolling with two gold medals and two stadium records. Reid won the 400m in 46.60 and Balkwill in 54.66. Balkwill also doubled up with a bronze medal against two of her World Junior teammates in the 100m with a time of 12.27. Jake Pfaff and Bethanie Wachna teamed up for two silvers. Pfaff in the men's pole vault with a leap of 4.40m and Wachna in women's Javelin with a toss of 45.89m.

Day 2- Matt Reid rebounded from a sub par performance in the 400m yesterday, to claim a silver medal in the 400m Hurdles in a time of 57.37. Jaideen Lowe clinched a silver medal in the women's triple jump on the last jump of the competition with a leap of 12.21m and Kelsey Balkwill claimed her 3rd medal of the meet with a silver medal in the 200m with a time of 24.85.

Read more Ottawa-At the Legion Canadian Youth Championship in Ottawa, Legion athletes' Jordan Young and Brandon McBride stepped to the top of the podium to collect gold medals no less that 5 times combined. Both Broke Canadian Youth Records, Young broke the discus with a toss of 62.29 and McBride ran 2nd leg on the 4x100m that broke a youth record of 42.45. Young also won the shot put and hammer events, while McBride won the 400m and the 300mh and added a medal in the 4x400m.

Medallist include:
Jordan Young- Gold (Shot Put, Discus, Hammer)
Brandon McBride- Gold(400m,300mh,4x100m), Bronze 4x400m
Tom Bednarik-Bronze Long Jump

Read more Toronto- Athletics Ontario has announced their appointments for the Ontario Summer Games Team. 9 total Windsor Legion members will attend the games. Both Windsor Legion Coaches, Kevin Dinardo and Kurt Downes have been named to the OSG coaching staff. As well 7 athlete's: Kelsey Balkwill-400m, Bethanie Wachna-JV, Matt Reid-400m, Jon Reid-400m, Jaideen Lowe-TJ, Tyler Macleod-100/200m and Jake Pfaff-PV will depart for Sudbury for the August 12-13th meet. The OSG is being held together with the Ontario Junior-Senior Championships. The Ontario Summer Games are also serving as the first-ever Ontario Invitational Espoir Championships.

Adjetey-Nelson & Muscat Named to Represent Canada at Commonwealth Games in India

Read more Ottawa-Athletics Canada has announced a team of 40 athletes today which will compete at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. The Athletics events with be contested from October 6th to 12th. Making their first appearances at the Commonwealth Games will be Legion athletes' Jamie Adjetey-Nelson and Megan Muscat. Coming off of a break through year, Jamie recently smashed his personal best in the Decathlon on the way to a 8,239 points, a number 9 world ranking and his first Canadian Senior Championship. Jamie is currently one of Canada's medal hopes for India. Megan Muscat, has had an up and down year and has managed to put her pedal to the metal of late. Muscat who competes in the T-37 class blasted her way to a season's best in the 200m and personal best of 15.74 in the 100m. All of this was done enroute to two medals, a Canadian Championship and punching her ticket to the Commonwealth Games. This is Megan's return to elite competition, as her last major meet was the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing, China.
